JUVENILE WORK (Band of Hope)

LED BY SR THOKO MAZIBUKO

This is the Juvenile Department from the age of 06 to 15 year. We believe that if we start teaching these children about the danger of Substance Abuse will make things easy to prevent them from getting involved, presided Grand True Superintendent of Juvenile Work (GTSJW) and the Presidents of Band of Hope in Districts (PBH).
The work of the Band of Hope always reminds us that when some people brought children to Jesus for Him to place His hands on them and pray for them, but the disciples scolded the people. Then Jesus said, “Let the children come to me and do not stop them because the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these”, He placed His hands on them and then He went away. The biggest role of the Band of Hope leaders is the look after and ministering in the work of bringing up the African Child, building a Sober Mind for a Sober Nation.

IOTT Juvenile Work consists of Senior (12 to 15 years) and Junior (06 to 11 years) Band of Hope. Each Band of Hope shall consist of at least 10 members under the age of 15 and the President who shall be an adult, holding a Commission from the GTSJW, and upon whom all the badges of the Band of Hope are binding.

The Grand True Superintendent of Juvenile Work is the general supervisor of the Juvenile Work of the Grand Temple, who’s work also include appoint and Commission the Presidents in each Band.
The KZN Borders Grand Temple has been led by the 2 GTSJWs from 2007 to date.

In 2008 when Sr Thoko Mazibuko took over the Office of GTSJW, she found a need to start each year with a workshop of all the SJW, PBH, namaQumrha and everyone who is involve in the work of Band of Hope, with the aim of:-

  • Planning together for the year ahead
  • Share any ideas
  • Help one another, where there is help needed.
  • To look at the expectations.
  • To ensure that each Sub-Temple has the Band of Hope.
  • For PBH to network, build relationship and share experiences.
  • To develop uniformity within the Grand Temple.

During this time she realised that:

  • Most of the PBH’s were much older people, they don’t know what is expected from them and they do not clique with the children because of the age difference.
  • She saw a big need for leadership skills workshops.
  • And a need to share some ideas on fundraising.

It is in these workshops where the spirit of unity amongst the PBH’s, SJW’s and children within the Grand Temple developed.

  1. There was also the development of the Band of Hope Ritual and BOH Hymns
  2. There was also a need to start organising Annual Band of Hope Rallies to start on Friday to Sunday where children from different Districts will come together, with the following aims:
  3. To share activities such as – Drama, dance, teach children respect, reading of the Bible, poetry and music
  4. To come together to learn from one another.
  5. To do the Community Outreach together.
