YOUTH DEPARTMENT

LED BY SR HLENGIWE MCHUNU

This is made out of Youth from 14 upwards, the future leaders of tomorrow and the Order, are well protected under the guidance of the principles of the Order, presided by the Grand True Superintendent of Youth Work (GTSYW), and the Executive, with the Superintendents of Youth Work in the Districts (SYW).

IOTT Youth Work is an entity of the mother-body, IOTT with the aim of gathering Southern African Youth Organisations and Church groups in promoting Sober Youth for Sober Nation. IOTT Youth Work recognises that alcohol and other drugs constitute a serious threat to the dignity and freedom of people and their societies. As part of the solution to alcohol and drug problems, members of IOTT Youth Work choose to lead a life free from such substances.

IOTT Youth Work was initiated in 1979 at the Right Worthy Session held at Vereeniging, South Africa.
KwaZulu Natal Grand Temple Youth has been doing a wonderful work of making sure that the Youth within the Grand House is living by the Vision and Mission of the IOTT Youth Work.

ACTIVITIES

From 2009, the Youth Department planned to start each year with the workshops and do follow-ups on what needs to be implemented, with all Districts Youth Executives. This was done with the aim of improving and uplifting the Youth Work within the Grand House. These workshops were led by the GTSYW and other Youth members who are expects in Youth Development and social issues.

In these, the GTSYW also shared some of the information received from the RW Workshops, like report writing, some of the focuses in these workshops were:-
Understanding of the IOTT Youth Constitution, rules and regulations
Social welfare issues and skill development which was done by Sr Jabu Sikhosana
Giving and thanksgiving which was done by Sr Hlengiwe Mchunu, who later became the GTSYW (2016 – 2017)

The Youth Department normally would end their rallies by having a revival service which is open to everybody. These services are normally shared with other youth organisations within the District that is hosting the Rally; they would use the Wesley Guild Vice President (Methodist Youth Movement), or any other young person to open the revival.

Although the youth visibility is enough in community structures and activities, in 2010 they have taken an active part in the march against drug abuse that took place in the streets and taxi rank in KwaZulu District.

Also as a way to keep the youth together and having fun during their functions:
The KZN Youth won music competition during the 2010 Right Worthy Music Extravaganza.

They planned a successful educational youth camp.
Members of the KZN Youth played a major role in helping the Right Worthy Youth Executive compiling and adoption of the IOTT Youth Constitution (Bro Mlungisi Mchunu) and the IOTT Youth Work Ritual (Bro Mthokozisi Sikhunyana), both these documents were adopted during the 2016 Conference.
As a result of the KZN IOTT Youth dedication on youth affairs, Bro Mlungisi Jama was appointed as the Right Worthy Assistant Director of Youth Work in 2016, during their conference that was held in Jabavu, Soweto.
