VIGILANCE DEPARTMENT:

Deals with Health and Social Welfare for the good of society and the Order, presided by the Grand True Vigilant Secretary (GTVS)

As the IOTT was established in 1875 it was only recognised by our government in 2006 as a Non-Government Organisation (NGO) with a registration number 2006/037790/08.
For many, many years, the IOTT only had one enemy, which was alcohol. This alcohol was mostly taken by older men, fathers who were heads of their families.  Before 2007 the well-known drugs were mandrax, and cocaine and they were known as import-drugs.

Today IOTT has many other enemies, not just alcohol but there are more drugs like Woonga, Tic, Mercedes Benz, Posch, BMW, and this year there is a new one call Flaka (Zombie Drug). hese days Alcohol comes out with cool branding and attracts youth more than adults, girls and women more than men.

The use of these new enemies leads to many social ills like, children and women abuse, rape of young and old people (grannies), killing of old people for their grant monies, human trafficking, women and young children getting infected by numerous viruses such as HIV/Aids.

As Templars, in partnership with other organisations like SANCA, SAPS, AA, community forums, Dept of Health and Dept of Social Development, and other organisation with common vision with IOTT, should strengthen the relationship and also start some work and establishing of IOTT in those areas where we have not yet reached. Together with these organisations we have a duty to free our sisters and brothers from alcohol and drug epidemic. It is a fact that South Africa is over supplied with alcohol and dangerous drugs.
